Riding a Mercedes Benz comes with a lot of perks. You feel like royalty while driving, and people often stare in admiration as you cruise by. Its luxurious reputation, the power it possesses, and the features it comes with all make the Benz one of the most popular cars on the market.
However, if your Mercedes Benz mileage check is terrible, all this means nothing. Instead of enjoying your Benz, you're stuck worrying about how much money you'll have to spend at the gas station.
If you're struggling with poor gas mileage, here are the top six reasons why and what you can do about it:
1. You're Driving Too Fast
Although this might seem like a no-brainer, if you're driving over the speed limit or even just going a bit too fast for the conditions, your gas mileage will suffer. The faster you go, the more gas you use.
To curb your fuel costs & enhance mileage, slow down and take your time getting to your destination - actually, just stick to the speed limit - it's there for a fuel-saving reason!
2. You're Carrying Around Extra Weight
If you have a lot of stuff in your car that you don't need, it will weigh your car down, causing more inertial strain on the engine to drive the car forward. That also means more gas is used.Â
To get better gas mileage, clean out your car and get rid of anything you don't need. The lighter your vehicle is, the better gas mileage it will get. But don't chuck out the Stepney and the car repair kit!
3. You're Using the Air Conditioner
Your car's HVAC is one of the biggest gas guzzlers in any vehicle. It uses a lot of gas to cool down the air inside your Benz, so if you're using it all the time, it's going to use up a lot of gas.
The trick is to use the air conditioner sparingly. If it's not too hot outside, open the windows and let the fresh air in. You can also park in the shade, so your car doesn't get too hot.
If you use the air conditioner, make sure that you're not using it on full blast. Turn it down to a lower setting to not use as much gas.
4. Your Tires are Low
If your tires are low, it will take more gas to get your car moving. That's because the low pressure in the tires makes them less efficient.
It's easy to check your tire pressure. Mercedes comes with a tire pressure monitoring system, or you can use a gauge to check the pressure yourself.
If your tires are low on air, have them filled up to the recommended pressure. This will help improve your gas mileage.
5. The Spark Plug Needs to be Replaced
The spark plug is central to efficient fuel combustion in an engine. If it's not working correctly or has eroded, your car will have a hard time starting.
Fortunately, replacing the spark plug is a pretty easy and inexpensive fix. If you're having trouble with gas mileage, it's best to check if your spark plugs need replacement.Â
6. The Oil Needs to Be Changed
If your car's oil is dirty, it can cause problems. One of the issues it can cause is poor gas mileage.
Make sure you're changing your oil according to the recommended schedule. If you're way overdue for an oil change, don't drag it too far to an engine seizure - get it done as soon as possible.
It's a quick and easy fix that could make a big difference in your gas mileage.
