What's New for 2024?

This year, the Mercedes-Benz GLS receives a style refresh. Now, the SUV has an updated grille, a reworked front bumper, new LED taillights, a new steering wheel, and new color options. The base GLS 450 and mid-tier GLS 580 even get a boost to their powertrains and now output 375 horsepower and 510 horsepower, respectively. Also, the GLS 580 has a new Off-Road Engineering package, which offers underbody protection and a revised air suspension to raise the SUV an additional 1.2 inches for greater ground clearance.

Performance

Two engines are powering the Mercedes-Benz GLS. The base powertrain is a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine that produces 375 horsepower and 369 lb.-ft. of torque. While the other engine is a turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 that outputs 510 hp and 538 lb.-ft. In the highest trim, a more powerful version of the V-8 engine generates 603 horsepower and 627 pounds of torque.

Fuel Economy

In testing, the EPA found the Mercedes-Benz GLS gets an estimated fuel economy of 18 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway. The V-8 engine is less efficient, with 16 mpg city, 21 mpg highway, and 18 mpg combined.

Design

The new Mercedes-Benz GLS is more modern than ever before. Seating for seven is standard, but this can be reduced to six with a set of captain chairs in the second row. Regardless of the configuration chosen, Winter Garden and St. Cloud residents will find plenty of space in the first, second, and third rows. Drivers will also find the dashboard and cockpit designs to be more contemporary, borrowing design elements from the new Mercedes-Benz GLE-class SUV.

Technology

Outfitted in every Mercedes-Benz GLS model a slew of technology. In the middle of the dash sit two large 12.3-inch digital displays. The top monitor allows Clermont drivers to run Mercedes-Benz's MBUX software, which features an iPhone-like virtual assistant. The bottom screen, however, adjusts other features like the reconfigurable gauge display. Additional features include Apple CarPlay/Android Auto capability, in-dash navigation, and an onboard Wi-Fi hotspot are also available. A 13-speaker Burmester Surround Sound stereo also comes standard, though this can be upgraded to an optional Burmester 3D audio system with a 26-speaker arrangement.
