The Mercedes-Benz GL-Class is the auto maker's large seven passenger SUV and is meant to provide all the luxury and capacity demanded by the American market.The GL-Class is offered with three different engine choices: a 240-hp 3.0-liter turbo diesel V6 in the GL350 BlueTEC, a 362-hp 4.6-liter twin-turbo V8 in the GL450 and a 429-hp 4.6-liter twin-turbo V8 in the GL550. All engines are bolted to a 7-speed automatic transmission and full-time four-wheel drive system. Standard safety features include anti-lock brakes w/Brake Assist, traction control, stability control w/roll control, eight airbags, mbrace2 SOS system, PRE-SAFE, rear camera, drownsiness detection, crosswind stabilization and collision prevention assist. The GL550 also includes bi-xenon headlights with highbeam assist and curve illumination, lane keep assist and blind spot detection.For 2013, the GL-class has been completely redesigned inside and out.

As far as large SUVs go, this is one of our favorites. It seats seven, offers respectable towing capacity, and has the moves of a much smaller SUV.

The Mercedes-Benz GL-Class doesn't have the sheer interior volume of some premium-large SUVs, but accommodations are more than adequate for the majority of buyers. Relatively trim exterior dimensions ease parking and maneuverability, too. Any GL offers impressive power and high levels of refinement.

A large SUV that blends luxury and practicality, the 2013 GL-Class fits somewhere between the midsize M-Class (with which it shares a platform) and the ridiculously expensive and uber-boxy G-Class. The big GL-Class competes with other large luxury SUVs such as the Audi Q7, Cadillac Escalade, Infiniti QX, and Land Rover LR4.
