Comparison
Admittedly, there are cars with more horsepower, and there are cars with better power-to-weight ratios. Two of them are the Ferrari Enzo and the Porsche Carrera GT, but those sex kittens can't touch the torque offering of the SL65, and more important, they aren't cars that can be used daily as easily as can the SL65, which is no more difficult to drive every day as the half-as-expensive, half-as-powerful SL500.

Comparison
With 604 horsepower and torque measuring an asphalt-wrinkling 738 pound-feet emanating from its twin-turbo V12, this drop top can hang with Ferraris as easily as it will go for a top-down Sunday drive. When the road gets curvy, the SL65 feels as willing as anything in this price range.
Liked Most
With 6.0 liters of displacement and twin turbochargers, the SL65's V12 engine is the most powerful production engine ever offered by the German automaker.
One Liner
Mercedes has taken its legendary roadster and injected it with a major dose of horsepower that elevates it to supercar status.

A power-operated, retractable hardtop offers the integrity, insulation and security of a coupe when raised along with the full alfresco experience of a roadster when powered down.Seductive style, quick-folding retractable hardtop, powerful V8 and V12 engines, impressive handling doesn't come at the detriment of ride quality.

Today we have the safest, quickest, flattest-handling and prettiest SL-Class cars in half a century.
New Car Test Drive

The lack of body roll while cornering hard in the new SL is eerie, especially when you realize it's a computer managing the lean, not conventional anti-roll bars. But it works very well, delivering a comfortably compliant ride and remarkably composed cornering, all complemented by a new slightly quicker steering rack.
Road & Track
The Mercedes-Benz SL-Class models are stately, well-constructed two-seat roadsters, created in small volumes for customers with exclusive tastes. The SL-Class is comprised of three models: the SL550, the SL63 AMG and the SL65 AMG. The SL550 is powered by a 382-hp 5.5-liter V8 engine, mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission, while the SL63 AMG boasts a hand-built 518-hp 6.3-liter V8, as well as a seven-speed MCT (multi-clutch technology) transmission not found in any other Mercedes model. The SL65's larger 6.0-liter bi-turbo V12 generates an immense 604 horsepower, and is paired with a five-speed automatic transmission. The SL63 AMG and SL65 AMG are outfitted with aluminum shift paddles, while all models feature aggressive AMG body styling and an adaptive suspension with Active Body Control (ABC). Standard equipment on every SL-Class model includes a power retractable hardtop, heated leather seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, Bluetooth wireless connectivity, satellite radio, 6-disc CD/DVD changer and a voice-activated hard drive-based navigation system with four gigabytes of internal media storage. Safety features include four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, an electronic stability program (ESP) with traction control, Bi-Xenon headlamps with Active Curve Illumination and an automatically deployable rollover bar, as well as front, side and driver knee airbags and the Mercedes mbrace system. After a one-year hiatus, the Mercedes-Benz SL-Class returns for the 2011 model year with minimal changes. All models are now equipped with HD radio and an advanced tire pressure monitoring system. Additionally, the SL600 model has been dropped from the lineup.
